What it does

The command snaps the currently selected picture or shape into a cell (or range) you nominate: it moves the object to the cell's top-left corner with a 3-point margin and then resizes it according to the picture-fit mode set in Preferences.

Use it to tidy up photos that drifted after manual insertion, after rows were inserted or deleted, or when a photo record was copied in from another workbook and no longer lines up with its cells.

How to use

1. Click a picture or shape on the sheet (the object must be selected, not a cell).
2. Go to tab DVD Addin → group Graphics → the arrow next to Pictures → Move/Resize, or press Ctrl+Shift+D.
3. A picker appears — "Select target cell or range". Click the destination cell and press OK.
4. The picture is placed in the cell and resized according to the Fit mode for Insert Pictures setting under Preferences ▸ Graphics:
   • Fit to cell — stretch to fill the cell (aspect ratio not preserved);
   • Fit column width — fit the cell width keeping the ratio, and let the row height follow the image;
   • Fit inside cell — keep ratio, centered (the default) — fit inside the cell and centre it, keeping the ratio;
   • Keep original size — move only, leave the size untouched.
5. The status bar confirms the object has been fitted.

Download this command's sample workbook — the data matches the pictures below (sheet Diary W41), so you can follow each step right away.

Step 1. Click the misplaced picture (1) — here the photo of footing M3 has drifted out of C8:C11 and covers column D. You must select the picture/shape object, not a cell.

Step 2. On the ribbon, open the DVD Addin tab → Graphics group → open Pictures → choose Move/Resize (or press Ctrl+Shift+D).

Step 3. The Select target cell or range box appears: click cell C8 (1) — one cell of the merged area is enough, the command takes the whole C8:C11 — then click OK.

Step 4. The picture now sits inside C8:C11 with a 3-point margin, sized by Fit mode for Insert Pictures in Preferences ▸ Graphics — by default fit inside the cell, ratio kept, centred (1). The status bar confirms (2). One picture is handled per run.

Example

A weekly site diary has a merged photo cell at C8:C11. After two rows were inserted above, the photo of the M3 footing pour drifted and now covers the text in column D.

Click the photo, press Ctrl+Shift+D, then click cell C8 in the picker. Picking any single cell of the merged block is enough — the command expands to the whole C8:C11 area and seats the photo inside it with a 3-point margin.

Notes

• You must select the picture or shape first; if a cell is selected the command reports "Please select an image or shape" and stops.
• Only one object is processed per run — several misaligned photos means running it once per photo.
• Clicking any cell inside a merged block is sufficient: the command expands to the full merged area as the target frame.
• The picture is attached to the cell (Move and size with cells), like pictures added with Insert Pictures: hiding the row or column that holds it hides the picture too, and unhiding brings it back; filtering, sorting and resizing cells carry it along. A pasted picture (Ctrl+V) does not size with cells by default, so it stays visible when its row is hidden — run Move/Resize on it once.
• Fit to cell mode unlocks the aspect ratio, so a photo can look stretched if the cell proportions differ; switch to Fit inside cell or Fit column width to keep the ratio.
• Fit column width mode changes the target row's height, which can shift the print layout — check Print Preview afterwards.
• Ctrl+Z will not undo this; if the fit is wrong, run the command again with a different target cell.
• The range picker does not lock Excel: while it is open you can scroll, switch sheets or switch workbooks to pick the range there. Click OK or press Enter on the sheet when done; Cancel or Esc to stop.
